Apparently, Harman’s Mark Levinson knows how to keep a party going.

Last year, the company announced the № 52 Reference Dual-Monaural Preamplifier as part of its 40th anniversary collection. The product has just started shipping.

The № 52 has an all-analog, dual-monaural design with a two-chassis configuration that separates the analog audio circuitry from the control section. This boasts pure signal paths.

Also worth noting on this drool-worthy component are the three balanced XLR and four unbalanced RCA line-level inputs, and the dedicated phono input that is selectable for moving coil (MC) or moving magnet (MM) operation. It also has two sets of XLR and RCA stereo preamplifier outputs, as well as an auxiliary pair of XLR and RCA outputs.

Other features include a unity gain SSP (surround sound processor) output and connectivity via Ethernet, a USB port, Mark Levinson’s proprietary ML Net, a 12-volt trigger and IR control ports.

“We designed the № 52 to be nothing less than the ultimate preamplifier,” said Jim Garrett, director of marketing and product management for Harman’s Luxury Audio Group and Loudspeakers. “It is engineered and built entirely without compromise to deliver extraordinary musical involvement and sonic accuracy and serve as the centerpiece of the finest music systems.”

Featuring a brushed metal black and silver faceplate accented by red illumination against a glass center panel, the № 52 Reference Dual Monaural Preamplifier comes packing its own remote control and a $30,000 MSRP.
