Major motion picture studios have decided to offer HD downloads to the PS Network.
Subscribers of the Sony PlayStation Network video delivery service now have more options when it comes to entertainment.
Six major movie studios, including 20th Century Fox, Walt Disney Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal Pictures and Warner Bros. Digital Distribution will offer high-def movies for purchase and rental. Everything from comedies and kids films, to horror flicks and dramas will be offered.
“Securing high definition content from these studios is another significant milestone further validating PlayStation Network as a complete entertainment network in the home,” says Peter Dille, sensor vice president, marketing and PlayStation Network, SECA.
Some of the first movies available for download include:

The woven acoustic screen is now available in a retractable, masking version.
Centralized home control and automation plus boatload of A/V options including dropdown theater screen revitalize 12K-square-foot home.

I assume this is Sony’s answer to Microsoft’s Zune HD Video streaming service on the Xbox 360? That is a tough target to achieve, as Zune HD looks very good in my experience.
It will be purely speculation at this point as to which service will produce higher quality video until we receive word on codecs and bitrates used for streaming, etc. But judging from how much slower dloading video/demos from PSN is compared to the 360’s Marketplace, I imagine compromises will have to be made for Sony’s service.
