Picture it, New York City, 30 years ago. There’s somethin’ strange in your neighborhood … it’s somethin’ weird, and it don’t look good. Who were ya gonna call? The Ghostbusters, that’s who. All this paranormal stuff started happening, and people didn’t know where to turn. At first it was just word-of-mouth business for the proton pack-carrying crew; then as they started proving their success, they made a local TV commercial, they got coverage in USA Today … pretty soon everyone knew exactly who would serve their supernatural elimination needs.

Fast forward 30 years and picture it, you’re on the Internet. You’re searching for some “smart home” devices or home theater. You’re not looking for a run-of-the-mill big-box company to simply hang your new flat-panel TV on the wall. You want something special, something big, something unique for your home that will change your life.

Who ya gonna call? Where do you look in the Yellow Pages (are those still around?) or Yelp? What words or phrases do you search for?

Maybe you have an idea—you’re into lighting or music; you’ve heard of “this Crestron” company or seen a friend’s projection system. But you’re not even sure what to call the guys that you want to investigate hiring … A/V pro? Tech dude? Systems contractor?

Of course, some way or another you’ve managed to land on ElectronicHouse.com, and started educating yourself about all of this technology and perusing photos of an installation project that now has your wheels turning about your own home. Well, we want to make sure you can find your own Ghostbusters.

See, a lot of these folks we call custom electronics professionals, or CE pros, used to rely heavily on word-of-mouth referrals for their business, and many still do. Others dabble in advertising or social media. But we’re making the task of finding CE pros much easier, with the launch of FindInstallers.com, an online directory to connect you with your nearby tech dude.

FindInstallers Residential (there’s a Commercial directory, too) will automatically geo-detect your location and display custom installers nearest you. From there, you can also refine your search by another location, any of eight electronics categories or by keyword; or if you’re interested in a particular manufacturer you can search by brand, too, to see which CE pros carry it.

The directory includes both enhanced and premium listings, so you’ll be able to learn more about some CE pros than just seeing their pretty logos and where they’re located. Plus you can read more about those electronics categories—audio, video, home control and automation, lighting and shading, home theater, energy management, networking, and security and monitoring—by clicking on Learning Center articles from Electronic House.

So as Drs. Venkman, Stantz and Spengler said, don’t wait another minute, pick up the phone and call the professionals. Or by today’s standard, just click.
