The iPhone is coming, but from an unexpected source—Linksys. After months of rumors swirling about the Apple iPhone, Linksys has actually staked a claim on the name.

Good for them. It certainly won’t hurt sales, but I can bet they’re going to get a few confused and possibly irate customer service calls.

The company says that their phones will offer more than lip service, but don’t expect killer storage and iTunes access; these units will use voice over IP technology to tap into applications like Yahoo! Messenger and Skype.

However, Web access also means music, video and photo opportunities aplenty. The company even boasts connectivity with the Linksys Wireless-G Compact Video Camera (WVC54GC) for real-time home monitoring.

A variety of iPhone products are currently available. Prices range from 80 bucks to well over $300.

  • Kits start at $79.99
  • For use with Skype or home phoneline
  • Mobile unit uses any Wi-Fi hotspot
  • Access Yahoo! Messenger and other services
  • Access photos, video and music
