The archiving of history on the Internet has been well underway for years, but multimedia fans (and history buffs) just scored another nugget thanks to Google and Life magazine.

Google will help archive Life’s massive image library that users will be able to surf through, using Google Image Search.

Life magazine has served as a tremendous documentation of culture and history of the 20th century, capturing some of the most renowned photos of all-time and taking advantage of world-class photographers. But of course, you can only fit so many images in print—which is where the online world can breathe a whole new life, so to speak, into the photography.

The online archive will eventually feature about 10 million images, notes Digital Trends, and about 97 percent of those have never been published.

That’s a whole lotta slideshow time that you can enjoy, especially if you’re able to network your PC and HDTV. And you thought YouTube surfing was fun.
