LG.Philips Introduces Flexible Display at Human Hair Thickness

Thin is definitely in when it comes to video displays, and it doesn’t get much thinner than what LG.Philips has come up with in cooperation with Universal Display Corporation.

LG.Philips LCD has announced that it has developed the first full-color flexible active matrix organic light emitting diode (AMOLED) display that uses amorphous silicon (a-Si) technology. If you thought Sony’s OLED displays were thin and bright, you’ll dig this as well.

LG.Philips LCD’s 4-inch full-color flexible AMOLED display features 320 x 240 QVGA resolution and can reproduce 16.77 million colors, the company says, and adds that the display is barely thicker than a human hair. It incorporates a stainless metal foil substrate to ensure durability and protection against heat, which improves the manufacturing process and enhances product stability, LG.Philips says.

The display might be small now, but perhaps in a few years we’ll be hanging them on walls and watching TVs that look like posters.
