Looks like the battle for the thinnest TV at CES 2010 is already underway.

LG Display has unveiled a 42-inch 1080p panel that’s just 2.6mm (.1 inch) thin, which LG says makes it the “world’s thinnest” LCD TV.

The prototype LED-backlit display weighs less than 8.8 pounds and offers a 120Hz refresh rate.

LG will be showcasing this thin display and other “cutting-edge” display technologies in a private room at the Bellagio Hotel during CES.

At CES 2009, LG unveiled the LH95 LED-backlit LCD, which it said at the time was the thinnest at just 0.976 inches.

Law of diminishing returns here…I fail to see the appeal and this doesn’t impress me.

When will LCD manufacturers start to focus again on image quality rather than how razor thin you can make the panel?
