Hot on the heels of Samsung’s news that it would start taking orders for the UN105S9W 105-inch curved 4K TV for $120K, LG is making a similar announcement—sort of.
LG says it will start selling its 105-inch 21:9 curved Ultra HD TV by the end of the year. However, they have yet to announce an exact date or pricing for the TV.
Also known as the 105UC9, this model was first introduced back in January at CES 2014. It features 11 million pixels (a 5120 x 2160 resolution), a CinemaScope 21:9 aspect ratio, LG’s own True 4K Engine Pro, and an IPS 4K panel. That engine means that the TV can upscale lower-resolution content, while the panel delivers true-to-life images and a wide viewing angle.
Other features include Film Patterned Retarder (FPR) 3D technology, the 4K 3D Upscaler, Smart TV features with LG’s webOS platform, and a built-in 7.2-channel, 150-watt sound system from Harman Kardon.
“The vision behind LG’s 105-inch 21:9 Curved Ultra HD TV was to bring the movie theater into the living room,” said In-kyu Lee, senior vice president and head of the TV division at LG’s Home Entertainment Company. “Featuring a curved 5K CinemaScope screen and a 7.2-channel speaker system, the 105UC9 is LG’s most spectacular Ultra HD TV yet. This product pushes the envelope in home entertainment innovation and demonstrates what is possible when you bring today’s most advanced TV technologies together.”
LG is now taking pre-orders on the 105UC9 in South Korea. Although LG plans to roll out the TV to other markets in the fourth quarter, there’s no word on when it will come to the U.S., and at what price.
