Planning a weekend trip to New Orleans? Don’t forget to pack your old electronics.
This weekend, LG is inviting people to come on down to the Superdome for a free recycling event. The company is tying the event into March Madness, since they are an official corporate partner of the NCAA.
Best Buy is also helping out, to boost the company’s “Do March Right” promotion. This is an exclusive for customers participating in the e-cycling event on Sunday. Just drop off any brand of electronics on Sunday, March 25, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. local time, and you’ll receive a coupon valued at between $50 and $150. That coupon can be redeemed between March 25 and April 7 at any local Best Buy, on select LG plasma, LCD and LED HDTVs.
So the coupon is sort of limited, but free recycling is nice, too. The event will take computers and peripherals, printers, fax machines, TVs, stereos, phones, beepers (you still have one of those lying around?), cameras, and much more.
Just don’t show up with a microwave, smoke or fire alarm, thermometer, dehumidifier, or anything like a refrigerator or washing machine. Those items, as well as “any unit with sludge or liquids,” (ew) will not be accepted during this free event.
“Responsibly disposing of old TVs and other unwanted consumer electronics products is just good for the environment. We thank Best Buy for supporting the Do March Right eCycling event in New Orleans with incentives for consumers to save energy by upgrading to a more-energy-efficient TV,” said Wayne Park, LG’s president and CEO. LG says that the company collected more than 10 million pounds of electronics for recycling in 2011.
The event will be held on March 25 in parking lot 4 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The Superdome will host this year’s NCAA Men’s Final Four Semifinal and the National Championship Men’s Basketball games.
