Legrand is probably best known for its wired endeavors. However, the company is looking to branch out with its newly announced airQast Wi-Fi Speaker System.

First announced at September’s CEDIA Expo, the airQast Wi-Fi Speaker System is the company’s first wireless product. Designed to stream audio to any space, it even has its own free app, which allows users to control the system from almost any smartphone or tablet.

The aforementioned free airQast Controller app is available from both iTunes and the Android Market. It allows users to select and play music, adjust volume levels, create playlists, and share streaming audio sources.

Legrand says that the system can deliver 40 watts (RMS) per channel, from either a conventional analog source or up to six digital sources. Those digital options include iTunes, Sirius XM, and Pandora, among others. Legrand also plans to add other services in the future. If you can’t wait, you can add in your own music, via the airQast’s auxiliary input.

If you’re wanting the same wireless access, from the comfort of your installer, the company also plans to release airQast Main Source. Although it uses some of the same technologies, this is a little something that’s configured specifically custom integration market.

Besides how you go about getting it, Main Source consists of a single Wi-Fi module designed to work with Legrand’s lyriQ Multi-Room Audio Systems. Other features include options for lyriQ High Performance Keypads or 7-inch LCD Consoles, as well as the outdoor Single Stereo Rock Speaker and the evoQ 7000 Series of in-wall, on-wall, and standalone speakers.

Both the airQast Wi-Fi speaker system and Main Source will be available this December. Legrand has yet to announce pricing for either product.
