At first glance, this kitchen might look like any other kitchen. But what’s under the surface makes for an incredible recipe, cooked up by custom electronics pro Audio Video Concepts.
The kitchen starts with one part audio, which is supplied by a Niles GXR2 multizone receiver and a pair of Niles CM710 ceiling mount speakers. These speakers are controlled by a Niles display keypad.
If the chef needs a remote closer in the kitchen, he or she can use the i-remote. From these controls, the homeowner can choose AM/FM, iPod, CDs or any TV.
The next part of this recipe is the LG 47-inch LCD. The TV is one of the center pieces of the kitchen, allowing the homeowner to watch TV (maybe a cooking show) and cook at the same time. And if he or she is not sure what to make for dinner, a recipe can be found by browsing the Internet up on the TV.
This is controlled by a Gyration Air Mouse and keyboard. If the user is in the kitchen or on the sofa, the Internet can be used as if sitting in front of the computer.
The final part of the recipe is the surround sound system on the TV. The surround sound is supplied by a Yamaha receiver, Niles DS speakers and a Paradigm subwoofer. With all components together, including the whole family, these homeowners couldn’t ask for a better recipe.

A new CEA study says that more builders are offering all types of technology.
It’s hard to imagine life without remote controls, but it’s been a long, strange path to the modern incarnation we know and love today.
Oh Dear! Not good lighting for working in the kitchen while watching and listing to the fabulous audio/video set up!
The row of 3 downlights in front of the kitchen cabinets/range light the floor well, but the work goes on at the countertop. All the countertops appear to be granite, which reflects the image of the downlights’ light bulb for “pet glare” that follows the cook wherever he/she looks. Not good!
The “L” shape counters with cabinets above appear to have no light source, which if they did, would also create “pet glare.” The 3 downlights in front of the divider base cabinets do not light that countertop either. And, it appears that the light sources are incandescent, which are so wasteful of our unrenewable resources and add heat to the space, which in warm weather needs to be air conditioned out. All in all, I’m weeping about the lighting and am jealous about the audio/visual set up.
