Kayak Speaker Puts the Fun in Funky
Sonance's new creation hangs tough and keeps the room tidy -- all while cranking out stereo sound.
August 20, 2008 | by Rachel Cericola

If you’re up a creek, this Kayak won’t bail you out, but it will allow you to blast some hellish Zeppelin.

Just announced, the Kayak is part of Sonance’s Italian NACSound product line. Looking more like a spacecraft than watercraft, the unit promises stereo sound from a single, stylish speaker. That little piece in the center does not hold the secrets to the universe or even that little alien prince from “Men in Black.” Instead, it’s an acoustic reflector, which makes the sound possible.

The unit promises 60 watts of sound and the possibility of 14 different finishes, “using a specially developed ceramic-coating process.” You can also choose to finish off that finish in a solid gloss or matte style. Another funky option: The Kayak can be suspended vertically or horizontally, depending on your decor and universe.

Of course, options and style don’t come cheap. The Kayak is available on a special-order basis, starting at $2,900.
