JVC Puts D-ILA TVs On a Diet
New 58- and 60-inch sets will have cabinet depths of around 11 inches each.
December 15, 2006 by Rachel Cericola

JVC recently announced two super-slim 1080p HD-ILA rear-projection TVs. The 58-inch HD-58S998 measures 10.7 inches deep, and the HD-65S998 is 11.6.

While some may argue that these units are chunky in the world of flat-panel TVs, I say—geez, you guys are hard to please. Just look at the prices; they’re almost as impressive as each unit’s picture.

The company says that the improved profile is made possible by a new optical engine. The engine also pumps the heat out of the sides, where the inputs/outputs are also located, making it perfect for wall mounting.

Sadly, my husband can’t use either of these units as a last minute gift idea; neither unit will be available until early 2007.

  • HD-58S998: $3,299.95 (January)
  • HD-65S998: $4,199.95 (March)
  • Depth: 10.7 inches (HD-58S998), 11.6 inches (HD-65S998)
  • New optical engine
  • Boasts wider projection angle
  • Optional stand available
