JVC Launches New LCD HDTVs
JVC is touting their super-slim 1.5-inch LCDs and P-Series Full 1080p with iPod dock.
June 18, 2008 | by Dennis P. Barker

At the Le Meriden hotel in New York City, JVC unveiled its new line of LCD HDTVs. While one line offers super slim models with a depth of only 1.5-inches, another line includes a seemingly unique built-in iPod dock. At the same time, JVC introduced three surprisingly small new HD Everio camcorders that feature a built-in hard drive.

P-Series LCD HDTVs with iPod Dock
Offering a seemingly unique feature, JVC has found a way for TV playback of iPod video content. This new line of JVC LCD TVs features a built-in iPod dock. Each of the four new models, including three full HD 1080p sets, features JVC’s proprietary TeleDock, which is a flip-down iPod dock at the base of the set, providing a direct connection for playback through the TV. The new JVC P-Series includes the 32-inch LT-32P679, 42-inch LT-42P789, 47-inch LT-47P789 and the 52-inch LT-52P789. The LT-32P679 is a 768p model, while the others offer 1080p resolution.

When an iPod is docked, a menu appears on the TV screen for selecting music, music shuffle or video playback. The iPod can be controlled from the TV’s remote, which includes a circular keypad with a control scheme that mimics the iPod’s control wheel. Photos can also be displayed as a slide show along with music. During music playback, song title and artist name are displayed on the TV screen. During video playback, low resolution files, such as internet videos, can be displayed in a small screen mode. Higher resolution video can be shown in nine aspect modes at full screen. There’s also the option to play music files while the TV displays television programming. In addition, the iPod will charge while docked whether the TV’s power is on or off.

Besides the iPod dock and playback features, JVC’s new P-Series LCD TVs include a new universal remote with direct input access, a new on-screen menu system, a side-mounted USB photo viewer, and ATSC/QAM tuning. Connections include three HDMI inputs, two component inputs, one S-video input, SPDIF input and an analog audio output for sending sound from an iPod or the TV through a home theater system. The P-Series uses a pair of JVC’s proprietary oblique cone speakers rated at 10w per channel along with the Omni Surround package with equalizer offers four listening modes – movie, music, news (for news or talk show programming) and mono (for simulated stereo from mono programming).

The P-Series models include:

Procision (899 Series) LCD HDTVs
JVC announced the availability of a new line of LCD televisions powered by a JVC-developed next-generation high definition engine called the Clear Motion Drive III, which according to the company represents their most advanced technologies. At the heart of the new JVC HD engine is the company’s proprietary Genessa 32-bit processor. Now in its sixth generation, the Genessa technology offers higher processing capacity. The results are accurate, vividly colored images and superb motion image quality – critical performance parameters under any conditions, but especially so with high-resolution large-screen displays. The new JVC Procision LCD TV series is comprised of three 1080p models – the 42-inch LT-42X899, the 47-inch LT-47X899 and the 52-inch LT-52X899.

By developing a sophisticated, new image processing algorithm and greatly increasing the bit accuracy of the image processing engine, JVC’s new Procision series LCDs are designed for high-quality HD sources by pushing display panel evolution beyond 10 bits (many LCD panels are still at 8-bit) and the accelerating trend toward larger and larger screens.
