We’ve been so busy talking about 4K, we forgot that JVC had actually made an 8K projector—and now, they’re ready to ship it.
According to Engadget, the 8K Super Hi-Vision projector will soon start selling in Japan, under the name DLA-VS4800.
The DLA-VS4800 uses JVC’s e-Shift pixel technology, as well as a D-ILA display panel that projects two images. That’s what gives it the 8K label, but without actually increasing the pixel count. (It’s listed with a 4,096-by-2,400 resolution.)
Of course, there’s currently no content to test it out for yourself. The broadcasters have some time, though. Right now, JVC only has plans to sell the unit in Japan, limiting the audience even further with its 25 million yen ($261,000) price tag.
