When CES attendees get home at the end of this week, the last thing they will want to do is clean. Hopefully, a few of them will be able to sneak something from iRobot into their carry-on bags.
The Massachusetts-based company is showing off the Scooba 450, the latest in iRobot’s fleet of robotic helpers. Promising a new (and completely automated!) way to clean floors, the Scooba 450 boasts a three-cycle cleaning process — one that uses wetness. In other words, it’s not just swishing the old dirt around. According to iRobot, the method actually washes away up to 99.3 percent of bacteria.
The Scooba 450 has two cleaning options: One 40-minute cycle that can clean up to 300 square feet or 20 minutes for smaller spaces up to 150 square feet.
Other features include a brush that spins at over 600rpm to get up the grime, as well as iRobot’s iAdapt Responsive Navigation Technology. Also, if you are confused about any of the robot’s features, it has a new information button and verbal cues that can tell you everything you need to know.
“There’s a lot of science behind the new Scooba 450,” said Colin Angle, chairman and chief executive officer of iRobot. “In order to clean better, we have to clean differently. Reinventing our unique Scooba platform represented both an opportunity and an intense challenge to our engineers. They’ve taken that challenge and delivered the next disruptive force in floor cleaning technology.”
The iRobot Scooba 450 is selling now, with an MSRP of $599.99. An optional Scooba DryDock Charging and Drying Stand is also available for $79.99.
