ZAGGbox debuted its impressive 1TB digital media center and cloud-based content sharing device at CES 2010.

Two months later at Electronic House Expo (EHX) Spring 2010, the media aggregator/personal media server already has plenty of updates.

ZAGGbox users can record, store and play DVR content, photos, videos and movies with the Apple-friendly box, which acts as a server for a personalized Web site on which all the content can be accessed remotely. There’s also an “unlimited ability to add storage,” says Brian Packer, VP of marketing.

Unlike with the Slingbox, ZAGGbox users need to record their DVR content onto the ZAGGbox to access it remotely. ZAGGbox does offer remote access to music, photos and home videos, something Slingbox lacks.

ZAGGbox Updates

iPad - Packer says the ability to access content via the iPhone is still a big benefit of the product, but the iPad has changed the game.

The iPad allows ZAGGbox users to access content while sitting on the deck, shaving or working in the basement. Instead of remote access, think of it as ambulatory access.

Coming This Summer - ZAGGbox expects to begin shipping products during “summer 2010.”

Third-Party Control - Packer expects the ZAGGbox to be compatible with third-party control systems such as Crestron, Control4 and AMX in “the next wave.” Packer says there will be a software update available shortly after the initial product launch.

Netflix, Vudu Coming Soon? - When asked if ZAGGbox will offer apps for Netflix, Vudu and other providers, Packer says “we will be introducing those later through software updates.”
