The IN83 boasts the latest digital technology via the 1080p DLP DarkChip4 chipset from Texas Instruments.

If you want to Play Big, we encourage you to go home—to your theater. The latest in the InFocus Play Big projector line gives you a nice big 1080p image to look forward to when you get there.
The InFocus IN83 looks a lot like the IN82 because it’s basically the same shell. It’s what’s inside that has changed. The addition of Texas Instruments’ latest DLP DarkChip4 technology combined with BrilliantColor allows this unit to move a notch up the numeric scale.
Projecting a nice 2.35:1 Cinemascope/widescreen aspect ratio without the need for an external scaler, it easily hooks to any external video source.
HDMI 1.3 with Deep Color support makes more colors than the biggest crayon box on the planet—10.7 billion to be exact. Other features include a native 5,000:1 contrast ratio (with a maximum contrast of 15,000:1), 1,600 max ANSI lumens, and Pixelworks DNX 10-bit video processing.
The IN83 will be available this month for $5,999.

Glad to hear Joe :-)
I dont suggest you try this as it might ruin your DLP experience, but for some people, if there is a bright image with a dark bagkround and you move your eyes or head a little, you will see those wonderful rainbows I’m talking about. If you dont, then you are lucky not to be effected by this. Text with a dark (or worse, black) background is often a bad culprit.
I love the technology so I would love a 3 chip model.
BTW, 100% score for the simple styling of this projector. Makers often forget they go on a celing in a dark room. Some are real ugly!! This one is a beauty.
Cigarettes aren’t good for you? Damn you Woody Allen-- you lied to me!
So last fall, I watched a college football game in my media room on my single-chip DLP projector (great picture, BTW). After the game, I went into the kitchen to cook dinner. I was looking down at my cutting board when extreme vertigo hit me and I toppled over. As I was going down, I thought, well, maybe rainbows aren’t giving me a headache, but this isn’t a positive effect-- maybe I should’ve gone for an LCD machine.
After a visit to my MD, it ended up being just a nasty inner ear infection.
Little rj, you hurt my feelings :-( haha
WHen they can bring out a DLP with three chips for $3000.00 (comparable to Epsons latest 3 chip LCD) then I would show some interest. Headaches from rainbows are not of my interest. ANyone who tells you its fine for your eyes and brain to see one colour at a time flashed over and over would have told you 40 years ago that cigarettes are fine for your health.
Ryan has the right idea!
Dave C and Ryan are a bunch of morons who would not know great technology if it has bitten them in the @$$!!

Yeah, I see rainbows. My wife and son don’t see them, though-- and they have no idea what I’m talking about when I mention the effect. I can minimize it by not darting my eyes across the screen quickly (hard to do with a 10ft. wide ‘scope screen), and by trying to stick with HD sources-- I notice it more with SD sources.
The next projector will be a 3 chip-- if my wife lets me :D.
And, yep, InFocus makes some very nice looking projectors. They remind me of the old Vidikron CRT machines.
