Intercoms have been around for years. However, the category has never really become a must-have. Adding video into the equation could change all of that. Recently, Doorbot launched a solution that works in conjunction with your smartphone. Now, they’ve got a little competition.
The iDoorCam just launched on the crowdfunding site Indiegogo. The new option packs a day and night vision camera, speaker, microphone and motion sensor into a small, circular package.
It’s also easy to install, using just a screwdriver. Once it’s in the wall, connect it to your home’s Wi-Fi network. Then every single time someone comes to the door, you’ll get an alert on your smartphone. From the phone, you can hear and speak to your visitor—or just ignore them. It even supports multiple users.
Right now, iDoorCam is looking to fast-track the production process by raising funds on Indiegogo. To secure an iDoorCam, the minimum pledge is $99. If all goes well, the company plans to ship the product sometime in October 2013.
