A few months back, people were scoffing at the idea of paying for Hulu—a service that had previously been free. During the limited launch for Hulu Plus, the company apparently learned that it was a little too expensive. Now, the streaming service is available to all, at a reduced $7.99 fee.
This price is right if the company wants to compete with Netflix, right? We shall soon see.
Hulu Plus offers instant access to full seasons of current and classic TV programming, such as 30 Rock, Modern Family, Glee, The A-Team, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and much more. The freebie service only has a few episodes of each.
Also, Hulu Plus is available wherever you want it, to some extent. Like the standard Hulu, it can be viewed on a computer, but adds in the PS3, the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, as well as Roku’s set-top boxes, select HDTVs and other devices. A complete list of compatible products is available on the Hulu website. Expect additional devices to be added soon. To date, Hulu has blocked its free counterpart from streaming to TV sets.
Another major difference is that your monthly fee will get you a 720p HD stream, as opposed to the free standard-def stream.
To all of the viewers that have been ponying up the extra two bucks, Hulu CEO Jason Kilar says that you will receive a credit for the price difference.
