If you’re scrambling for a good Father’s Day gift that won’t break the bank, Roku has a nice bundle deal that should keep dear old dad happy—and entertained as well.
The company is offering the Roku HD box, an HDMI cable and six months of Hulu Plus for just $79.99. When you add everything up, this discount should save you about $50. It also includes free shipping.
If network TV isn’t his thing, Roku does stream all kinds of other services, too—about 500 of them, actually. It can provide on-screen access to Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, HBO GO, Pandora, UFC, Facebook, (and now Slacker too) and too many others to list here. Just remember that subscriptions and fees may apply.
Of course, it can also tap into Hulu Plus, which features both current and classic TV programming at your fingertips. Even though you pay, there’s still the occasional commercial, but it’s less than what you’re used to and it’s very cool to have such a large on-demand library available.
Don’t forget that you’ll also need broadband service to stream those high-def (720p) goodies. However, this box should connect to that pretty easily, since it has built-in WiFi support.
If dad has been looking to catch up on Glee, Law & Order, Desperate Housewives, House, or any other network TV, this gift is a no-brainer. It’s also a nice way to pass the summer, unless you really like what the networks are dishing out! Remember that this package does include free shipping, but it’s not going to last forever. Roku says that the offer will expire on June 17, 2012.
