Home Theater From Two Sides
This multipurpose home theater sports a 140-inch screen on one end and a 42-inch plasma on the other.
June 25, 2007 | by Rachel Cericola

Ever seen a movie so bad, it made you want to drink? Well for this Palisades, NY homeowner, “spirit”-ual relief is not far away. The big screen may be up front, but the back of this room is where the action’s at.

The front of the room includes comfy theater seating and entertainment via a Yamaha DLP front projector and a Stewart FireHawk 140-inch screen. However, the homeowners didn’t want the entertainment to stop at the end of every movie. At the rear of the room, there’s a fully functional bar and a poker area with its own 42-inch plasma TV.

“I’ve been to other people’s home theaters and it seems like they’re underused. If you’re not watching a movie, no one uses the room,” the homeowner says. “I wanted a theater where I could have friends over and play cards, have cocktails or watch TV.”

Even when guests belly up to the bar, they could still catch the action on the big screen, thanks to the 42-inch plasma. However, Barry Weiner, owner of installation firm Hudson Valley Home Media, would have liked to offer an alternative to what was going on in the front half of the room. “I would have the projector and the plasma be able to show two different programs,” he says. Unfortunately, a separate satellite receiver was not installed.

However, the back of the room is a popular place, thanks to the many liquor cabinets. “This is the ‘guys’ spot,” says Weiner. They must throw the best Super Bowl party on the block.

Nice!  I have to say this is one of the best “fun” HTs I have seen on this site.  My only complaint is the ity-bity subwoofer.  Not everyone is a bass head so I understand but you could have built a custom sub right into that humongous front stage.  Which I think is also a bit too big unless you have live bands over.
