Hisense joined a growing cast of characters at CES 2009 by releasing its first LCD with LED backlighting — the TLM42T08GP.

The 42-inch HDTV has an “ultra-thin” 2-inch design with dynamic backlight-control technology for “more vibrant whites and truer blacks”. Hisense says the LED backlight is free of lead, radiation and mercury.

The TLM42T08GP uses just 50 watts of power, a 30 percent decrease, and has an estimated life of more than 100,000 hours.

Hisense says it plans to release China’s largest LED assembly line some time in the second half of 2009.

Pricing and availability for the TLM42T08GP weren’t announced.
