November 26, 2006 by Rachel Cericola

If I were to add a new pal to my overflowing entourage, it would be a huge bonus that this pal provides high-def programming. bills itself as the world’s first 1080p high-def video-on-demand service for PCs.

The service, which will launch this week, can be received via the Web. The company also plans to release the MatrixStream IPTV 1080p set-top box (above) next year.

At launch, the service will offer over 700 free channels—although not all in HD—from 70 different countries. The best part is they are free. After you get hooked, the company plans to add video-on-demand titles for a “low” monthly cost. New channels and titles will be added on a monthly basis.

The company is planning to see 10 million customers sign up over the next five years.

  • Over 700 free SD and HD IPTV channels from 70 countries
  • User uploaded content and DVR available in 2007
