Hellboy II: The Golden Army includes surround tracks mixed with AstoundSurround
If you thought 3D was good, wait till you get a load of 4D! That’s what the surround soundtrack on this week’s “Hellboy II: The Golden Army” will be offering as the first release to incorporate GenAudio’s AstoundSurround mixing technology.
The Colorado-based company had its AstoundSurround software employed by Micasa Multimedia during the mastering process for the movie for home theater, and says it delivers true a 360-degree spherical sound field.
The mix is used for both the 5.1 and 7.1 soundtracks for Hellboy, which is full of explosions, crashes, howling demons and other surround-sound delights that GenAudio says will be flying at your ears from every direction because of the sound localization cue technology.
As a bonus, if you get the standard-def edition of the movie, you will also get an AstoundStereo DVD insert to enter for a shot at winning a Philips home theater system.
So have any of you snapped up “Hellboy II” yet—let us know how the 4D surround sounds! If it lives up to its billing, it sounds like the Blu-ray version could be a big hit as demo material during next year’s CES, EHX and CEDIA electronics shows.
