Harman Kardon is focusing on connectivity and multizone functions for its two new AVRs shown this week at CES.

Both the AVR 2700 and AVR 3700 have multizone features allowing users to play two independent audio sources (such as Blu-ray and Internet radio) in different rooms.  Both are AirPlay compatible and DLNA 1.5 certified. The AVR3700 has built-in Wi-Fi. A free app for iOS or Android allows control via smartphone or tablet.

An auto-calibration feature, called EzSet/EQ adjusts the system for the user’s room. These systems include digital power supplies for less power consumption.

The $799 AVR 2700 is a 7.1-channel receiver with 100 watts per channel. It features eight HDMI inputs – including one on the front. The unit will also upscale video to 4K. A front-panel USB port allows easy connection for any smartphone, tablet or content stored on a flash drive as well as with compatible Apple products.

The $999 AVR 3700 pumps the channels up to 7.2 and 125 watts per channel. The extra LFE channel is perfect for users with larger rooms or who insist on the extra balanced bass that two subwoofers provide. A second remote is included for multizone use. The 3700 includes eight HDMI inputs and all the features of the 2700.
