Did you have a new home built last year? If you did, chances were very good that your homebuilder offered you a solution to control the lighting in it.
Automated lighting control is surging, aided recently by the green-ing of America that we’re seeing daily, for which lighting control has always served as an energy-efficient technology. The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) confirmed this recently by reporting that 58 percent of builders offered lighting control in 2007.
In the “Sixth Annual State of the Builder Technology Market Study,” the CEA confirmed that lighting control was the fastest-growing home technology next to energy management systems between 2002 and 2007. In 2002 only 1 percent of new homes were built with lighting control installed, while that rose to 5 percent last year.
The category is also being greater served by the Home Lighting Control Alliance, which has been educating consumers, electronics installers, builders and others on the benefits of lighting control since its formation in 2006.
Lighting is a technology that differentiates what builders have to offer, but it will certainly differentiate your home as well. Benefits can be seen in everything from efficiency, ambiance, luxury, relaxation, practicality, visual impact and more.
