Are you still watching movies on an old TV and wishing for an upgrade? Once you’ve seen a true big screen—projector and projection screen—it’s tough to go back. This homeowner went from the small time to the big time for the transformation of this dedicated home theater room, courtesy of custom electronics pro Home Systems in Pompton Plains, N.J.

The big move included going from an obsolete large big-box TV and basic stereo system to a 45x80-inch Da-Lite 16:9 fixed screen and ceiling-mounted InFocus 777 3-chip DLP projector, enhanced with a DVDO VP-50PRO video processor.

The audio system also received a major makeover, as stereo was replaced by a Denon surround receiver and full-throttle Triad Speakers Silver model system. DVD, high-def cable, gaming consoles and even VCR are among the sources handled by the system.

And to spruce up the viewing environment, this wasn’t going to be just a lounge and screen area. Cabinetry, trim and proper seating all play a part in turning this room into a true dedicated home cinema.

“The construction project entailed taking this area and trimming and rebuilding the interior for a more cozy atmosphere. Theater system electronics needed to be added with good performance and reasonable cost as system parameters,” says Home Systems’ Ron Roslasky. “We worked with our woodworking team for the cabinets. Custom Interior wall panels were fitted between decorative cherry wood columns and Triad speakers were fitted on the wall panels. Dual rows of seats were installed on risers for optimal viewing sight lines. Acoustic Smart theater lounge seating was used on the project.”

System control was simplified by using a Crestron MC2W media processor with an ST-1700C color touchpanel. Six zones of room lights were set up using a Lutron Grafik Eye lighting control.
