You may not be able to download albums from legendary rockers Led Zeppelin at Apple’s iTunes store yet, but next month you can buy a Zeppelin at select Apple stores online to play your iPod music (including whatever Zep CDs you ripped onto iTunes yourself).

The Zeppelin is a high-performance powered speaker system from Bowers & Wilkins designed to improve the quality of playback for the current range of iPods.

B&W’s Zeppelin is a one-piece amplified system and docking station that’s about 2 feet wide with polished stainless steel and a tapered shape that indeed looks like a Zeppelin.

For performance, the Zeppelin’s ends incorporate the midrange and tweeter drivers similar to that of B&W’s 800 Series loudspeakers for a curved profile that produces smooth response and evenly distributed sound, the company says. Bass comes from a 5-inch ‘subwoofer’ located in the center and twin rear-firing ports.

The Zeppelin includes a pebble-like mini remote handset for volume, source select and mute control that works with iPods’ play/pause and track-selection functions. The Zeppelin will be available in September for $599 at select Apple Stores and online at http://store.apple.com.
