You’ve got plenty of high-def sources hooked up to your main viewing area. But what about sending them into your secondary HDTV in the bedroom, kitchen or home office—without having to double the number of Blu-ray players, set-top boxes and such?

Gefen lets you split the difference, so to speak, with its new 1:2 Splitter for HDMI 1.3. The little box o’ dynamite makes it a snap to distribute that high-def content to a second TV, and because it’s sending HDMI you get the video and audio signals.

Pop your HDMI source cable into one port on the rear of the device, and you can output to two displays—Output 1 is designated to go to the primary display, and Gefen says other displays on the outputs must be capable of the same resolution being shown on the primary display.

With the HDMI 1.3, the splitter handles:

• Lip-sync pass through
• Deep color
• Color space conversion
• Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio
• CEC pass through
• Resolutions up to 1080p

You can daisy-chain the splitters to distribute to more displays, plus Gefen makes 1:3 splitter, 1:5 splitter and 1:10 distribution amplifier as well if you need something a little more robust.

This one’s particularly nifty if your multiple displays are in the same media room—like an LCD and a drop-down projection screen/projector combo, for example. Price tag is $289.
