Fox Premieres BD-Live with “X-Files”
The studio must still "believe" in Mulder and Scully, giving the summer flop the full BD-Live treatment.

Want a surefire way to revive a franchise? Give it a boost on Blu-ray.

After making us wait 10 years for a sequel, “The X-Files: I Want To Believe” bombed faster than you can say “Speed Racer.” Now Fox will try to give the summer flick a second life on DVD, by making it the first Fox Blu-ray release to include BD-Live.

Fox says the disc will include exclusive, web-enhanced content, as well as games and connectivity to other “X-Files” fans around the country. You can get your geek (and plastic badge) on by creating a Special Agent avatar in “The X-Files Dossier,” where you can also post notes, theories, and basically say goodbye to any of your remaining free time.

The disc itself has over three hours of bonus features, including an unrated, extended cut of the movie. The Blu-ray version will be priced at $35, which includes a digital copy.

“One of the most compelling elements of ‘The X-Files’ franchise is how the mythology inspires fans to create and share their own theories about the characters and storylines,” says Mary Daily, Fox’s executive VP for North America marketing. “The extras on this release take full advantage of the BD-Live technology and bring that interactive experience to a level never before possible.”

Sounds like someone believes. “The X-Files: I Want To Believe” hits shelves on December 2.
