Verizon wants to satisfy those looking for more content to show off high-def holiday TV purchases.

The service provider just announced HD VOD (high-definition video-on-demand) content is now available through its FiOS TV service. Verizon will initially offer 75 titles, including summer eye-candy “Transformers,” the animated penguin flick “Surf’s Up” and the Richard Gere dramedy, “The Hoax.”

There will also be a few HD freebies, such as MTV videos.

“Whether they’re buying their first HDTV or their fourth this holiday season, HD customers always want more HD programming,” said Shawn Strickland, Verizon’s vice president of video solutions. Right on!

Verizon recently said it will offer more than 150 HD channels by the end of 2008. As part of that plan, they will increase the high-def VOD demand offering to more than 1,000 titles.

HD VOD is currently available in Richmond and Virginia Beach, Va., Tampa, Fla., Fort Wayne, Ind., and Pittsburgh, Pa. Verizon plans to roll out new markets soon, starting with Washington, D.C., Massachusetts and Rhode Island, with the remainder coming by the end of 2008.
