This home theater is the focal point of a 10,000-square-foot home’s lower level. The entire lower floor is dedicated to family entertainment. In addition to the theater, there is a cavern style wine cellar, a pool table room, a media room, a bar and an exercise/game room.
The staircase from the floor above opens to the theater lobby. As you enter the lobby, your attention is immediately directed to the ticket booth, which has a lifelike Marilyn Monroe mannequin.
The homeowner wanted the true grand movie house atmosphere, including tiered reclining chairs, a decorative wall treatment, decorative proscenium and hidden components. The nine luxury reclining chairs are all motorized.
The room has acoustical panels on the rear and sidewalls. The panels are framed with an Art Deco-style molding made from solid mahogany. The center panel on the wall opposite the entry to the room opens to reveal a roll out equipment rack. There is also an acoustical panel, in an Art Deco fan-style, on the ceiling directly above the screen. The ceiling of the room (along with the ceiling mounted acoustical panel) is perforated by a fiber optic starfield.
In addition to the audio and video system, Media Rooms also designed, fabricated and installed all of the interior architecture. The black fabric area below the screen conceals the center speaker and the subwoofer. The front columns on either side of the screen hide the left and right front speakers. The side and rear surround speakers are located in the ceiling.
The entire audio/video system is controlled by a Crestron ST-1700C wireless touchpanel, which also controls the room lights and starfield lights via a Lutron Grafik Eye.
