Epson Projector Pumps 1080p for the Holidays
The PowerLite Home Cinema 1080 UB promises sky-high HD at a (hopefully) nice price.
September 04, 2007 | by Rachel Cericola

We love it when companies try to top themselves. Not only is Epson coming out with a new PowerLite projector, but it will hopefully be at a nicer price. Take that, giant multiplex!

The PowerLite Home Cinema 1080 UB boasts a native 1080p resolution, which means killer high-def images. The picture may leave you in awe, it’s the price tag that we’re hoping will bring a smile to that stunned face. Originally, the company had released a sub-$3K price, but has since retracted that offer and is working on finalizing the details.

The unit boasts a 50,000:1 contrast ratio and 1,600 ANSI lumens in a 3LCD chipset. It’s also got two HDMI inputs to hook up your favorite game console or other A/V device, which can be projected anywhere from 30 to 150 inches in size.

Don’t start firing up the PlayStation just yet; the PowerLite Home Cinema 1080 UB won’t be available until December. You can, however, start frothing for the optional add-ons, which will include a ceiling mount, a Panamorph Anamorphic lens kit, replacement lamps and a HQV video processor.

Editor’s Note: Epson has retracted its pricing information; they are working on finalizing it for release soon.

That’s good news on the case color. However, I was liking it much more before in the “sub-$2700” category. Too much higher than that and it warrants a closer look at the Sony VW60.

As far as I know, it’s black. I also know that now they are saying it’s going to be in the “sub-$5,000 category.”

Just curious: is the anticipated Home Cinema 1080 UB going to be in a black case (just like the current Pro Cinema 1080 model)? Or is Epson going to continue with the white/silver case for the Home line?
