With the Epson MovieMate 55, just add the screen and you’ve got an instant theater experience.

The latest MovieMate features a projector, a CD/DVD player and stereo speakers in one portable unit. With the carrying handle and light weight (8.3 pounds), you can stuff this device in your trunk or the overhead compartment.

Plug it in and Epson says it instantly provides a 16:9 60-inch image from six feet away or 120 inches from 12 feet. Sadly, the DVD player isn’t Blu-ray; it’s a progressive-scan standard-def (480p) unit. Other features include 3-chip 3LCD technology, Dolby Digital support, and a new, brighter E-TORL lamp with up to 1,200 lumens.

Use the MovieMate 55 as a stand-alone device, or with a Nintendo Wii, PS3 or Xbox 360. You can even play video from an MP3 player or iPod, or slideshows from CDs and USB flash drives.

The Epson MovieMate 55 will be available in October for $699.
