Emotiva is wrapping up the week with a brand new product. The company is now shipping its previously announced XPA-1L Class A/Class AB Monoblock Amplifier.

The hook on this component is that it packs the performance of a Class A amp with the convenience and power-saving options of a Class AB, all into one unit. That basically means that you can have 35 watts of Class A power. However, once the sound cranks up a little higher, the system will switch to AB mode for up to 250 watts into eights ohms (or 500 watts into four ohms). Even at the higher levels, Emotiva promises low noise and low distortion.

Measuring just 17-by-3.88-by-19 inches, the XPA-1L has a rated power bandwidth of 20Hz to 20kHz (± 0.15dB), a frequency response of 10Hz to 80kHz (+0/-2dB), and a total harmonic distortion plus noise rating of less than 0.005 percent. It also has a balanced XLR input, a gold-plated unbalanced RCA input, gold-plated audiophile-grade speaker terminals, and a solid milled aluminum faceplate with an individually laser-etched serial number plate.

Other features include a power supply with 90,000 uF of storage capacitance and a 450VA heavy-duty toroidal transformer. It also has trigger input and output, automatic 115/230 AC line voltage detection and switching, a soft-touch power switch, a front-panel halo-lit standby switch, and a status LED that can be disabled via a switch on the back panel.

The Emotiva XPA-1L Monoblock Amplifier is shipping now, with an MSRP of $699.
