Harman is making some noise at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show, via its Revel brand. The company just announced the Performa3 line, a complete array of loudspeakers designed for home theater and music lovers.
Promising an audiophile-caliber performance, the Performa3 line has a total of 10 models. This includes three floostanding speakers, two bookshelf models, two center channels, one surround speaker, and two subwoofers. Each one will be released with a choice of high-gloss real wood and automotive-grade painted finishes.
The entire line boasts proprietary drivers and 1-inch pure-aluminum-dome tweeters to deliver frequencies beyond 20kHz. Those tweeters feature the Acoustic Lens Waveguide, which Revel says is shaped for optimum imaging and horizontal and vertical dispersion both on-and off axis. The midrange and low-frequency drivers have aluminum cones, cast-aluminum frames and high-power motor structures.
Other features include air-core inductors and audiophile-grade polypropylene capacitors in the crossover network, as well as heavy-duty gold-plated binding posts. Also, depending on the model, there are controls for the tweeter level and Boundary, both of which allow for a little extra tweaking.
Starting off the floorstanding line is the 3-way F206 tower. This has a 1-inch tweeter, 5.25-inch midrange, and dual 6.5-inch woofers. It’s priced at $3,000 per pair. In the middle of the line is the F208, which bulks up the performance above via dual 8-inch woofers. This model has an MSRP of $4,500 per pair. The top of the floorstanding line is the F308. For $6,000 per pair, this 3-way model has the 1-inch tweeter, the 5.25-inch midrange and three 8-inch woofers.
If you need something a little smaller, there are two 2-way bookshelf models. The M105 has a 1-inch tweeter and a 5.25-inch woofer, with the M106 packing in a 6.5-inch woofer. These are priced per pair, at $1,200 and $1,700, respectively.
Revel also has two new center-channel speakers, which are sold individually. The $1,000 C205 is a 2-way speaker with a 1-inch tweeter and dual 5.25-inch woofers. For $1,700, the C208 is a 3-way model with a 1-inch tweeter, a 4-inch midrange, and two 8-inch woofers.
The single surround option in the Performa3 family is the S206. This 2-way surround speaker has two 1-inch tweeters, two 6.5-inch woofers, and an MSRP of $1,800 per pair.
Rounding out the Performa3 line are two powered subwoofers. The B110 features a 10-inch woofer and built-in 500-watt amplifier for $1,700, while the B112 bulks up the specs with a 12-inch woofer and 1,000 watts. That will have a $2,500 MSRP.
“Our Revel Performa loudspeakers have earned rave reviews from audiophiles since their initial introduction,” said Jim Garrett, senior manager of marketing for the Harman Luxury Audio Group. “We have made a number of advancements in loudspeaker materials and manufacturing technologies that we are now able to incorporate into the upgraded Performa3 models. We are confident that listeners will be thrilled with the improvements in sonic performance and musical accuracy.”
Harman says that most of the Performa3 loudspeakers will be available sometime in the second quarter. The F308 and B110 will be coming in September 2012.
