Elan Handheld Taps iPod, Other Features
The N800 is getting an upgrade so that it will work with the VIA!dj and its VIA!migo iPod dock.
March 17, 2008 | by Rachel Cericola

The dj is getting down with the iPod. Elan just announced a new software upgrade that will allow its N800 to control both the VIA!dj and its VIA!migo iPod dock.

Why an upgrade? In the words of John “Bluto” Blutarsky, “Why not?” Well… there is a reason. Up until now, the N800 controlled all kinds of cool systems—except Elan’s two most popular, the VIA!migo and the VIA!dj II.

The update comes as a software download; however, you’ll have to call in an installer to get it. After that, you should be able to access iPod info, browse songs by genre, year, cover art, and more, all from the N800’s 4.13-inch widescreen display.

Aside from most Elan products, the N800 can tap into most home theater, lighting, HVAC and security systems—all while you check email and order a cookie bouquet online.

The new firmware update is free; however, the N800 will cost you $1,200.
