Need a last-minute gift for the greenie in your life—or someone who could use a little more sustainability? You don’t have to invest $30,000 in solar panels. Here are a few green gadgets for the eco-conscious:
For Computer Users— (View Product) Micro Innovations offers a keyboard and mouse made of bamboo—a sustainable material. Both simply plug into USB ports, and you’re ready to go—on PC or Mac. (Though the PC controls are a bit more intuitive.) I’ve been using these on my family computer for several weeks and the best news: no complaints. The keyboard is $40, the mouse $20 and together $60.
For Power Computer Users (View Product) — APC’s 10-outlet universal power supply Back-UPS ES 750 not only provides battery backup, but has three switchable outlets that automatically shut down peripherals when a computer turns off or goes to sleep. Prices vary.
For Home Theater Enthusiasts (View Product) —They can save energy too, with Belkin’s Conserve surge suppressor. This guy offers a radio-frequency remote control to conveniently shut off eight of the ten outlets on the strip. The other two outlets remain “hot” for devices you don’t want to shut off, like a cable modem or DVR. The remote can be handheld or mounted to a wall like a light switch. $60.
