WD’s My DVR Expander USB is compatible with Dish Network’s ViP Series of high-def DVRs.
My DVR is looking pretty full these days. There are only so many hours in a day, yet so many hours of high-def TV. OK, they aren’t all winners, but they hold a special place in my heart—just not on my DVR.
Instead of marathon movie sessions, prioritizing my viewing, and—gasp!—saving my programs in standard definition, I can just add on with Western Digital’s new WD My DVR Expander.
Designed for Dish customers, this new product provides extra storage for your digital video recorder. It’s also easy to hook up, via USB.
The new drive provides 500GB of extra storage, which translates to 300 hours of standard-def recording or 60 hours of HD. WD has also included something called GreenPower, which they say is eco-friendly. It’s supposedly whisper-quiet, so that’s good enough for me.
The My DVR Expander USB is Edition is compatible with Dish’s ViP Series HD DVRs. It’s available now for $150.

Can be used with any DVR that has SATA interface (basically all of them!).
Not sure why dish network is sited only ?

Thanks for calling that out Tom. Maybe WD has some type of deal with Dish, and they are pushing it out to the press that way. I thought it was sort of weird that they would limit it like that.
