DVDO is taking video processing to the Edge—the company’s new budget-friendly video processor and upscaler.

The Edge upconverts all video formats to up to 1080p output, incorporates Anchor Bay’s Video Reference Series (VRS) technologies, has six HDMI 1.3 Deep Color inputs, two HDMI 1.3 outputs and a multitude of analog and digital A/V connections. DVDO will be shipping Edge in mid-to-late September for $799.

DVDO says the unit includes customization features so you can personalize setups, and the new interface makes it a snap to set up and operate.

Among the VRS technologies is Precision Deinterlacing, for 10-bit deinterlacing for all sources from 480i to 1080i; plus Auto PReP (Progressive Reprocessing) that “undos” subpar deinterlacing in source devices. Edge’s Precision Video Scaling II converts everything to up to 1080p. Other features include Mosquito Noise Reduction, Fine Detail Enhancement, Edge Enhancement, Progressive Cadence Detection, RightRate, Precision A/V Lipsync and Auto CUE-C.

There’s even a “Game Mode” that gives gamers a better experience by eliminating video processing delay, and they can hook their Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 consoles up to the front panel HDMI input.

For installation and operation, Edge’s on-screen Setup Wizards guide you through, and on-screen “hints” make it simple to work.
