Our Product Geek heads to the video store! Editor Rachel Cericola highlights this week’s releases that are worthy of your DVD collection.
There are very few kids’ movies that you can watch over and over again. “Ice Age” was worthy of the kids hitting the replay a few times. Add “Ice Age: The Meltdown” to that mix. It’s got a better pace than the last one, and Queen Latifah. And if your kids are young enough, they won’t even notice that it’s not the first one replaying for the 70th time. For a little extra oomph, get it in Blu-ray. [$15.97 to 37.95]
If you’ve just discovered Borat and you find him hilarious (or not), you might want to take a look at “Da Ali G Show: Da Compleet Seereez.” It includes 12 episodes with commentary, unseen footage, Ali G’s commencement speech at Harvard, and if you get confused—a glossary. [$34.99]
It’s not a Frat Pack movie, but “You, Me and Dupree” brings together Owen Wilson, Matt Dillon and Kate Hudson. Does comedy ensue? You might want to wait for cable to judge for yourself. It’s also available in HD DVD, but that’s really not necessary. [$16.99 to $27.99]
If the live-action movie didn’t scorn you for life, “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas” is actually celebrating its 50th year—and probably its 50 billionth showing on TV. However, this would make a nifty stocking stuffer, with plenty of featurettes following the main attraction. [$13.99]
“Seinfeld” is probably running five times a night on your TV for free, but season 7 is actually sponge-worthy (if that was humanly possible) and it’s all commercial-free. Classic episodes like “The Soup Nazi,” “The Maestro,” “The Wig Master,” and “The Rye” are just a few of the many in this set that are good enough to be part of your permanent collection. [$33.88]
- Enemy of the State (Blu-ray)
- Goal: The Dream Begins (Blu-ray)
- Sky-High (Blu-ray)
