Dropcam is delivering on its promise for a small, simple HD monitoring solution. The company just started shipping the Dropcam HD Wi-Fi Video Monitoring Camera.
The camera was announced earlier this year, with promises of automatic night vision, 720p HD-quality video, and always-on access. It’s also nice and teeny, so it doesn’t hog up a lot of shelf space.
According to Dropcam, the setup is as easy as finding a spot and plugging it in. Of course, you will also need to connect it to your home’s WiFi network. From there, the camera can deliver 720p H.264 video using AES 256-bit encryption to any connected computer, iPhone, iPad or Android device. It even has two-way audio, so you can tell the dog (or the kids) to get off the couch.
Real-time viewing is free, with email and text alerts. There’s also cloud-based storage available starting at $9.95 per month.
The Dropcam HD is available now for $149. We’re planning to take a closer peek at this camera next week, so stay tuned.
