Just yesterday, we were talking about how people are clamoring for connected TVs. Now, DivX wants to add one more reason to network that big screen: DivX TV.
DivX TV is a new entertainment service that’s available on select connected home and mobile electronics.
Although it was rolled out in October, the official launch of DivX TV is today, and it includes an updated library with a larger selection of content. The company says that users can currently access a “library of more than 10,000 high-quality videos,” including exclusives from Funny or Die.com and other content from around the web. Some of that content includes news from the New York Financial Press, tech tidbits from CNET, how-to videos via Howcast, and a wide variety of DivX TV-branded content through OneScreen Media Exchange. DivX TV is also customizable, inviting viewers to bookmark favorite content and create personalized channels matching specific interests.
For now, DivX TV is an exclusive on LG’s Blu-ray products. Models that feature DivX TV include the BD550, BD570 and BD590 Blu-ray players and LHB335, LHB535 and LHB975 home theater systems.
Many of LG’s connected products feature a service called NetCast. There’s no mention of tying this service into that offering, which also includes on-demand access to Netflix, VUDU, Pandora, and other web-based services.
