Everything and anything connected to the TV is making its way to the iPad. Pretty soon, you will be able to add DirecTV to that growing list.
The company has launched a website to show off its DirecTV iPad App. The upcoming free app will turn your portable device into a giant remote control. Unlike the controller that’s currently wedged in your couch cushions, this option will provide DirecTV subscribers with instant access to favorite channels, shows and sports scores.
Another nifty perk is that subscribers will be able to access a DirecTV DVR from remote locations. Don’t get too excited, though. Unlike DISH Network, there are no streaming options—yet. At launch, it looks like you’ll just be able schedule and manage recordings.
Still, it’s free and seems like a necessity for DirecTV subscribers with an iPad. At least, it will be a necessity. Right now, DirecTV hasn’t announced the app’s official release date.
[Editor’s Note: According to Engadget, DirecTV’s App for iPad is now available through iTunes.]
