For a while we’ve been hearing about new DirecTV’s HD DVR. Now it looks like we’re actually going to see it.
The HR21 PRO can store 100 hours of high-def content in MPEG4, with support for 1080p and optical HDMI. There’s no word on pricing, but Multichannel News says it will be over the $1,000 mark.
If you’re looking for a sneak peek at the unit, Engadget’s got a nice picture. I know nothing says quality to me like scarves blowing behind the equipment.
The HR21 PRO should be available in October, but don’t start dialing your local DirecTV provider. Get the number of your local installer ready-- that’s the only way you’re going to get it.

If DirecTV broadcasts Mpeg-4 at a low bit rate, it would be a big mistake to spend a lot of money to purchase a DVR that does 1080P. When the source is low grade it will still be pixelated on fast moving scenes if it is over compressed.
Been waitin on the lates for 1080p dvr I have DTV 10R250 which I love but Have 1080P 65” with Sony Blu Ray don’t want to make a $1.000 mistake. Help
Ever use a REAL TiVo? If the HR21 PRO uses a real TiVo interface, it “might” make it worth some extra money but $1000… I don’t think so when a series 3 TiVo is less than $700 for CATV.
How much better can it be than the free HR20 I just got?
$1000...Free…
Hard to imagine it will justify the price difference…
