DIRECTV is planning to add something to its satellite lineup—and it’s not another channel or programming package. It’s broadband, and the company is hoping that subscribers will want to bundle the two services.

The satellite service provider just announced plans to add a video and high-speed Internet bundle for U.S. subscribers, thanks to agreements with ViaSat and Hughes.

Exede by ViaSat and Hughes’ HughesNet Gen4 next-generation satellite broadband services will offer speeds over 10Mbps starting later this year.

The offering is already coupled with triple-play bundles from Verizon, AT&T, Century Link and other telco providers. However, this will offer DIRECTV customers the option to get bundled pricing.

“We look forward to offering every single DIRECTV customer access to fast, affordable broadband options through DIRECTV, no matter where they live,” said Oswin Eleonora, senior vice president of emerging markets at DIRECTV. “With greatly improved capacity and speeds, satellite broadband services provided by ViaSat and Hughes will fully support our customers’ connected home experience, enabling them to access a host of features like YouTube, Pandora, social TV apps, and more than 7,000 VOD titles.”

DIRECTV will announce pricing and other details closer to the launch later this year.
