Dell Brings Alienware to Best Buy
The Aurora desktop is available on the web, and exclusively at 200 retail locations across the U.S.
October 16, 2008 | by Rachel Cericola

You might notice a few extra gamers hanging around your local Best Buy. Dell just announced that they are selling the Alienware Aurora exclusively through 200 Besy Buy locations, as well as the store’s website.

“People are defining themselves by the products they choose and groups they associate with,” says Michael Tatelman, Dell’s VP of global consumer sales. “Individuals who choose the Alienware Aurora are saying I am a serious gamer and user who demands the best in personal computing.”

That’s right; the Alienware Aurora is designed for the serious gaming crowd, with an AMD Phenom X4 9550 quad-core CPU, dual ATI Radeon HD 4850 GPUs, a 500GB3 7,200RPM hard drive, and 4GB of DDR2 memory. Other features include a multiformat DVD±RW/CD-RW drive, Alien Ice 3.0 cooling, and the Windows Vista Home Premium OS.

The whole kit (minus the kaboodle of a monitor, mouse and keyboard) retails for $1,699.99.

North American tech support for XPS systems used to be done in Canada until they closed down both call centers earlier this year.  One of the call centers in Canada used to do most of the North American XPS call volume during the day, shifting to Nashville after 7PM (if I remember correctly).  I had an XPS 700 before I got an Alienware, and I lived on the tech support line for 6 horrific months…

Alienware has their own dedicated tech support, and they are completely superior to Dell technicians, which are as you pointed out… useless.
I own an Alienware system, and the tech support was definately on par with what I expected for a premium priced system.

Too bad dell has the worst tech support!
