Western Digital’s WD TV Mini

Do you have that USB drive loaded up with MKVs, MP4s, AVIs, and MP3s? You ripped them all from your own personal physical media and didn’t download ANY of them in a manner less than legal, right? If you say so.

Well, regardless of how you obtained your multi-terabyte media library, are you looking for an inexpensive way to liberate it from the confines of your PC? TODAY ONLY NewEgg has the Western Digital WD TV Mini media player for only $39.99 with free shipping after coupon code 24HRSALE122B

The WD TV Mini doesn’t care how you obtained your media, it just plays it. This is a basic USB file player (no streaming or network support) but it does support a laundry list of file types, containers, and codecs and should play nearly anything you can throw at it. This box small, portable, has a simple yet elegant user interface, and can even act as a basic movie/music jukebox thanks to cover-art thumbnail support (embedded for music files, sidecar for video files). There’s also an active enthusiast and hacking community at WDTV Forum and WDTVC.com.

In lieu of a full-fledged HTPC, Network Media Tank, or streaming file player, this little box is about the best (and cheapest) option for playing back all those files that were probably burning up your torrent client not so long ago.
