As awesome as your home theater may be, like so many things in life, you can’t take it with you. You can, however, recreate that big screen feel just about anywhere you go with today’s deal - Vuzix’s IP230 iWear Virtual Theater Glasses for the iPod. And if your a fan of Star Trek’s Geordi La Forge, well, that’s just icing on the dork.
Marked down from $199, the iWear glasses claim to deliver a “high-resolution virtual display” of a 44” screen and use “optics aligned to military specifications”(?). The lenses can also be tilted up to 15 degrees for a good viewing angle and allow for independent adjustment from +2 to - 5 diopters. The speakers are integrated but can be removed if you opt for your regular earbuds.
A nice feature is that the power for this accessory is pulled directly from your iPod via the lower dock connector… no extra cables to tangle. If you plan to watch a lot(!) of movies on your next trip, there’s also an optional power pass-through cable to allow you to charge and play simultaneously.
Obviously, this gadget won’t complete with your home rig (it better not), but it could make those longish flights a bit more bearable.
